Car-Free Day, Norfolk
Event Date: 20/09/20
Sunday, 20 September 2020, Norwich, 10:30-23:00.
Car Free Day is celebrated across the world and encourages motorists to give up their cars for a day. Car-Free Day is a celebration of the more environmentally friendly alternatives to car travel (which is responsible for a huge amount of carbon emissions, air pollution, noise pollution, health problems, and damage to community life).
We are marking Sunday 20 September as Norfolk Car Free Day. This is in support of our shared aims to reduce air pollution, congestion on our roads, promote sustainable transport and encourage communities to live active and healthy lives .
All Norfolk residents are encouraged to give up their car for the day. Local communities can also apply for temporary road closures to support these aims and get an idea of what their street would feel like with less traffic. One idea for making the most of the closure is to use the time for ‘Street Play’.
Fees for street closures on Norfolk Car Free Day and play streets days will be waived. Guidance to help you make your application is available below.
Given the current situation with COVID-19, events will need to adhere with the latest government advice. We intend to broaden the scope of future Norfolk Car Free Days and improve ‘year-round’ access to the Street Play initiative as soon as conditions allow.
All applications for Norfolk Car Free Day closures must be received by Friday 28 August, To find out how to apply click here.
