Make Do and Mend – Alterations

Come along for an opportunity to view and learn about the Norfolk Museum Costume and Textile collections examples of ‘letting in, letting out and taking up’ and the alteration of clothing to prolong the life of the garment.

Take part in a practical taught session on how to shorten and turn up a hem by hand sewing using stitches such as hemming, catch stitch and herringbone as well as practical solutions for turning up jeans and other thick fabrics on a machine using the free arm sewing technique.

The session will end with a sewing surgery where participants can discuss any items that they find problematic.
