Make Do and Mend Workshops

image of an adult education textiles classWe recently piloted four Make do and Mend workshops in association with the Costume and Textiles department of the Norfolk Museum Service.  They were a great success with a wide variety of people attending.  With your help the plan is to take these workshops out into Norfolk.  Are you interested in volunteering your services?  Can you instruct others how to mend or upcycle clothes and textiles?  Do you have a venue in mind?  Would you like support from us?  If yes, then please do get in touch and help others to love their clothes for longer.

Additionally, a range of sewing and textile classes are run in Norfolk by other organisations:

  • Makeplace Norwich offers a range of sewing classes at both beginner and intermediate levels. They also offer some children’s classes.
  • Norfolk Makers Festival is a free, annual event which takes place at The Forum, Norwich and which brings together tens of thousands of people in a celebration of creativity and making heritage. The festival filled with inspirational exhibitions, demonstrations, hands-on activities, conversation, talks and workshops, attracting large numbers of visitors and creating a vibrant, collaborative festival atmosphere.
  • We Wear The Trousers is a not-for-profit organisation aimed at empowering people to keep our collective fashion and clothing resources in active use for longer. Keeping our clothes in use for longer by mending, tending, swapping, sharing, styling, remaking or refashioning offers us ways to engage with FASHION that aren’t just buying new stuff. Which isn’t just great for our bank balance, it’s great for the planet!

Please note that these organisations are in no way associated with the Norfolk Waste partnership, or any of the councils that form part of it, and we accept no responsibility for any part of their courses or any information contained within their associated websites.
