Electrical items and battery recycling
Some councils offer a collection service for small electrical items and batteries to be recycled.
Remove batteries from electrical items and place them in a separate bag for collection.
Remember to remove all personal data from your electronic items before recycling them. Visit recycleyourelectrials.org.uk for guidance on deleting your data.
There are some disruptions to electrical recycling at the moment. Please check with your local council to find our if they are currently offering an electrical recycling service.

Electrical items some councils can collect
Items should fit in a carrier bag.
- Toasters, kettles and blenders
- Irons
- Hair dryers and accessories
- Games consoles, tablets and telephones
- Cables and chargers
- Laptops (please remove all personal data) and calculators
- Small power tools
- Torches
- Cameras
- Electronic toothbrushes and shavers
Battery types some councils can collect
Place batteries in a separate bag for collection.
- Household batteries AA, AAA, C, D, 6V, 9V
- Mobile phone batteries
- Rechargeable batteries - li-ion
- Button batteries including hearing aid batteries
Electrical items councils cannot collect
- Microwaves
- TVs and PC monitors
- White goods such as dishwashers, fridges and washing machines
- Lightbulbs
- Glass or ceramic items such as slow cookers and glass kettles
- Commercial electrical items or those from a business
- Large batteries such as those designed for vehicles
- Sealed lead acid/gel batteries
